Elder Abuse is a complex and many faceted major problem in our society, and one whose incidence is still being assessed. It is being belatedly tackled, and sadly, it seems that it may well rival the incidence of child abuse.
We had a lot to do with the establishment of the Elder Abuse Prevention Association, [EAPA] which is now about to hold its 4th Annual three day seminar in Melbourne [1st to the 3rd of October]. Details of this informative and excellent networking seminar [and its registration details], can be found by clicking here

Pamela. I saw too much of this when I was working up to 14 years ago. The victims would never dob in their children as they were too ashamed.
Made me vow to hang on to what I had and no handouts for sob stories. I worked hard to get to where I was, and got no handouts. Had to depend upon myself.
My daughter is an aged carer and she would not try such tactics as she is bound by a set of rules towards her clients.
She had a neighbour who was well off but after her husband died her kids milked her for property guarantees atc, and borrowed her jewellery and never brought it back.
Her home was eventually sold up when a guarantee for daughter was foreclosed.
She went to a private rented flat with all sorts of promises from the daughter of help., but there was sttill only taking, and she was eventually homeless, going from one friend to another until she got into a housing commission unit., Her teenage grandchildren did not want to know about her when they could have helped with setting up the flat, even though she had reared them while their mother worked and had a good social life..Her son in law borrowed a truck and dumped all her stuff at the flat.. She was 80.
Last I heard her daughter, son in law and family had taken a flight safari to Northern Territory. They have another new home and new car, so must have some money stashed away..
